Welcome to the
Illinois Institute for Local Government Law
About the Institute
The Illinois Institute for Local Government Law is a not-for-profit professional organization founded in 1992 to serve the needs of the practicing local government attorney. Since its inception, the Institute has served as a conduit for the timely publications, workshops, conferences and website. The Institute enables local government lawyers to share information and solutions to problems of mutual interest by providing an open forum for the exchange of ideas and "no holds barred" discussions of issues. Membership in the Institute is open to all attorneys licensed to practice law in Illinois and actively representing local government.
Our Mission
It is the purpose of the Illinois Institute for Local Government Law to coordinate and promote professional education, information exchange and interaction among local government attorneys in Illinois in order to ensure the highest level of professional representation to units of local government.
Today, May 19, 2008, The Supreme Court released its opinion in the case of Dept. of Revenue of the Finance and Administration Cabinet, Commonwealth of Kentucky v. George W. Davis (Kentucky v. Davis). The Court ruled that the State of Kentucky's practice of exempting from state income tax interest on bonds issued by it or its political subdivisions but not bonds issued by other States or their political subdivisions does not offend the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
NABL members can view all Kentucky v. Davis documents, including the final decision, on the NABL web site library under General Municipal Bond Matters, State Tax Exemption for Bonds here.
