Why Join ILGL?

ILGL Benefits

Membership brings access to these valuable resources:

ILGL membership provides timely access to roundtable discussions and one-on-one conversations with other attorneys who deal with the same challenges and issues that you do, and other CLE accredited programs year round.

ILGL's Annual Conference and special programs

These provide focused and specific CLE professional education opportunities every year; diverse and up-to-the-minute information from leading authorities on the pragmatic practice information you need. The ILGL Annual Conference covers a variety of timely relevant local government issues, and provides additional annual programming on topics of particular interest, such as municipal prosecution and legal ethics.

The ILGL Journal

The Journal is published six times a year and contains articles and commentary on the most recent issues in local government law.

The ILGL Member Listserv

The listserv is Members Only and provides instantaneous posting of inquiries and responses when you need quick answers and advice.

Nuts n Bolts Workshops and Special Interest Groups (SIG)

The Nuts n Bolts workshops and SIGs are the ILGL members’ regularly scheduled free-form teleconferences. These meetings are 60 minutes in length and held over the lunch hour for easy access and hassle-free scheduling. Participants confer on issues of mutual concern, share information and solutions to problems in candid, "no holds barred" discussions.

The Municipal Prosecutors SIG

This forum brings together attorneys who handle municipal prosecutions to discuss issues, trends, and best practices unique to this area of local government law. Through focused programming dedicated to prosecutorial topics, this SIG provides practical guidance on emerging legal developments, courtroom strategies, and enforcement challenges. Known for its engaging discussions and timely content, the group offers valuable opportunities for professional development, peer networking, and the exchange of real-world experiences. Many members return year after year because of the unique insights and resources the SIG provides to municipal prosecutors.

Labor and Employment SIG

This forum provides an opportunity to discuss emerging labor and employment issues affecting local governments. Meeting quarterly in a virtual format, the SIG encourages idea sharing, resource pooling, and collaborative problem-solving on topics that are constantly evolving. Each session is moderated by an experienced practitioner and includes practical discussion, one hour of CLE credit, and the development of useful reference materials for members. Meeting summaries and key takeaways are shared through the ILGL Journal and Nuts n Bolts workshops to extend the value of the discussions to the broader membership.

FOIA and OMA SIG

This is a collaborative forum to discuss the latest developments, challenges, and best practices related to the Freedom of Information Act and Open Meetings Act. Meeting quarterly in a virtual format, the SIG provides opportunities for idea sharing, resource pooling, and practical discussion of issues that frequently arise in local government practice. Each session is moderated by an experienced practitioner, encourages active member participation, and provides one hour of CLE credit. Meeting summaries, key takeaways, and practical reference materials are shared through the ILGL Journal and Nuts n Bolts workshops to benefit the broader membership.
